In-Person Legal Training

Dunsmore Law is committed to providing resources to promote and enhance our client’s understanding of the maze of workplace regulations, and interpretations of those regulations by judges and arbitrators. Proactive planning protects employers from making mistakes. We support this service philosophy by offering numerous training courses for client groups.

There is no pressure to apply the knowledge to real problems immediately. Instead, participants can enjoy being sponges and debating new ideas outside of the work place. Learning becomes fun. This is especially so when the information imparted is valuable work-related material.  Our courses are designed with these goals in mind.

"Been there, done that" informs our presentations.

Additional Courses

The senior people at Dunsmore Law have been counseling employers for many years on how to achieve goals through best business practices, without third party interference. Courses can be customized to suit your particular industry on any subject related to Human Resources. Our courses deliver real life experiences to enhance the participant’s experience.

Attendance Management

Attendance management has become such a significant area of workplace management, that it is offered as a stand-alone course.

Bullying & Violence

We propose that employers devise and promote their own complaint procedure. It is always better to identify complaints as soon as possible, in a way that allows for made-at-home solutions.

Collective Agreements

Another important building block course is Collective Agreement Administration. This training covers all the basics of agreement interpretation and application. It studies the terms of the agreement and explains how the various clauses of a collective agreement are applied.

Discipline & Discharge

Discipline and Discharge is a unique subject. Both non-unionized and unionized work places need to focus on this subject. We will adapt as required.

Employment Contracts

The distinction between independent contractors and employees, and the importance of setting clear terms for probation periods and termination arrangements are emphasized.

Fire Prevention & Protection

Employers with volunteer forces that are progressing towards unionization need to understand the labour issues involved. There are different laws covering volunteers depending upon degree of employer control. Issues about managerial exclusions also need to be considered.

Human Rights Code

Employers need to be proactive promoters of rights protection. ‎It is much better to monitor and maintain your own work environment than to await the intervention of the Tribunal.

Labour Relations Act

Awareness of the strict time limits for asserting employer rights in the face of a Union Certification application and an understanding of the dynamics in a Certification Application is crucial to the ability of an employer to have effective input in the process.

Mass Terminations

This seminar addresses the legal and policy issues related to the unhappy, but sometimes necessary and responsible decision to shut down a business.

Municipal Council

Misunderstanding the differences between policy making and the implementation of policy leads to unnecessary confrontation between staff and elected officials. This seminar grounds the players in their tasks and spheres of influence.

Small Employers

This program is designed for employers who find themselves without in-house HR expertise. The course covers practical subjects of workplace management, from hours of work and overtime through the definition of work to the grounds for causal termination.

Third-Party Intervention

Participants will learn about the concept of fairness and its application in a workplace as well as internal complaint procedures and dispute resolution strategies.
